Japan Visit Visa for Pakistani Nationals in Islamabad

Japan is one of the world’s most appealing tourist destinations, famed for its rich culture, contemporary cities, gorgeous landscapes, old temples, and efficient public transportation. Pakistani passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to Japan, whether for leisure, visiting family or friends, or business.

Types of Japan Short-Term Visit Visas

A short-term visa generally does not allow employment in Japan. You can apply for:

Tourist Visa (Sightseeing)

Visit Family or Friends Visa

Business Visit Visa

Conference or Exhibition Visa

Cultural or Sports Event Visa

Step-by-Step Application Process

Select the correct visa category based on your purpose of travel.

Download and complete the official visa application form. Ensure:

  • All sections are completed.
  • Information matches your passport.
  • The form is signed by the applicant.
  • Do not leave mandatory fields blank.

Typically, you will need:

Personal Documents

  • Original passport (valid for at least 6 months)
  • Previous passports (if available)
  • Completed visa application form
  • Recent passport-size photograph (as per Japanese specifications)
  • Copy of CNIC

  • Chamber of Commerce registration (if applicable)
  • NTN certificate

Financial Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate that they can afford their trip. Typical supporting documents include:

  • Bank statement (last 3–6 months)
  • Bank maintenance certificate
  • Salary slips (if employed)
  • Income tax returns
  • Savings certificates (if available)

While there is no formal minimum bank balance, your finances should be sufficient to cover your airfare, housing, daily expenses, and planned activities. Strong and consistent financial records boost an application’s legitimacy.

Travel Documents

You should also provide:

  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Hotel booking confirmations
  • Detailed day-by-day travel itinerary
  • Travel insurance (recommended)

The itinerary should clearly explain:

  • Arrival date
  • Cities you will visit
  • Tourist attractions
  • Hotel details
  • Departure date

If Someone in Japan Is Sponsoring You

Provide:

  • Invitation letter
  • Sponsor’s residence information
  • Proof of relationship (if applicable)
  • Sponsor’s financial documents (if requested)

The embassy may request additional documents depending on the circumstances.

Where to Apply

Applications are submitted according to your place of residence.

  • Residents of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Islamabad Capital Territory generally apply through the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad.
  • Residents of Sindh and Balochistan generally apply through the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi

You may also use the Japan visa application process through VFS Global Pakistan, where applicable.

Visa Processing Time

Normal processing is approximately:

  • 5–10 working days after submission of a complete application.

Applications requiring additional verification may take longer, so applying 3–4 weeks before your travel date is advisable.

Visa Fee

Visa fees vary according to the visa type and exchange rate.

The Japanese Embassy announces current prices, and service charges may apply if you use a visa application facility. Always confirm the most recent charge before applying.

Common Reasons for Visa Refusal

Applications may be refused due to:

  • Incomplete documentation
  • Insufficient financial evidence
  • Inconsistent information
  • Unclear travel purpose
  • Weak travel history
  • Fake or unverifiable documents
  • Lack of evidence that the applicant will return to Pakistan

If a visa is denied, the embassy usually does not explain why, and a new application is often allowed only after six months, unless circumstances have significantly altered.
